Find out moreA fantastic way to upgrade your home's insulation, Breathaplasta Thermal is a highly insulating and lightweight plaster designed for solid walls. With a tested k-value at 0.127/mK, this innovative plaster offers a quick and easy way to boost your home's energy efficiency. Applying just a 50mm coat can improve the U-value of any standard solid wall by a remarkable 60%, ensuring your home is warm and healthy while reducing the risk of damp and mould.
With an incredible setting time of just two hours, projects can be completed far quicker than many alternatives, saving you valuable time and money on labour costs. Offering a total coverage of 2m², when applied at a thickness of 10mm, this plaster is designed for rapid build-up on the internal face of solid walls. You can apply multiple coats in a single day, with a maximum thickness per coat of 40mm. The typical application is 80mm in total thickness in two or more passes of the trowel, making it a fast and reliable way to add insulation to your home.
Breathaplasta Thermal is suitable for use in masonry backgrounds, brick, block, and stone, and does not impede the ability of a wall to breathe. It can be installed in temperatures between 5ºC - 25ºC, making it a versatile solution for any season. With just a 5.5L water addition per 9kg bag, this plaster is easy to mix and apply, ensuring a hassle-free installation.
Question:
will this prevent damp on walls
Answer:
The Breathaplasta Thermal Insulating Plaster is primarily designed to provide thermal insulation. Its main function is to help maintain a comfortable indoor temperature and reduce energy costs. However, it does have breathable properties which can help manage moisture levels in the wall. It's important to understand that while it can assist in managing moisture, it is not specifically designed to prevent or treat damp walls. If you're dealing with dampness, I would advise contacting a professional to assess and treat the root cause of the dampness. Question:
Can it go straight onto render
Answer:
For best results, you should remove existing render/plaster and get back to solid masonry before applying Breathaplasta Thermal. It isn’t usually just plastered straight onto an existing render because that surface can block breathability and reduce adhesion — unless it’s a breathable lime base with a good mechanical key
Question:
Can this go ontop of existing plaster or artex or does it all need removed and applied to bare brick?
Answer:
Best practice would be to remove existing plaster or artex back to the solid brick wherever possible before applying Thermal plaster.
If you must keep existing plaster and want a breathable finish, you’d generally use a finishing plaster designed for overcoating (e.g., Breathaplasta Smooth/Universal) after preparing the surface.
