XPS Insulation Boards & Sheets
XPS insulation is a popular type of insulation board commonly used in applications exposed to wet or damp areas. Known for its density and high moisture resistance, XPS stands for ‘extruded polystyrene’, which is closed-cell type of foam plastic. It is strong, sturdy and rigid, but lightweight and easy to install.
XPS insulation board is an efficient thermal conductor, making it excellent for both commercial and residential properties when it comes to maintaining heat in the winter and keeping your building cool in the summer. Because it can withstand high levels of moisture, it works especially well in damp environments such as underneath concrete slabs, basements, flat and green roofs, and carparks. For the same reason, it is also excellent for use on external and cavity walls. Another reason XPS insulation is recommended for use on floors and roofs is because it can withstand heavy loads. If preserved properly, XPS insulation can last around 45 years whilst maintaining its thermal performance.
What is the difference between EPS and XPS insulation? – XPS is denser, meaning it is stronger when it comes to load-bearing weight. This is why it is recommended for floors and roofs - but is more expensive. It is also more water resistant than EPS. Choose EPS if you require something lighter, where moisture isn’t going to be as much of an issue, and keeping costs lower are a priority.
