Cladding
Cladding is a protective outer layer used on buildings, and can be made from materials such as timber, PVC, metal and fibreglass. The main purpose of external cladding to provide the property with an additional shield against harsh weather conditions such as extreme rain, winds, and snow, protecting the structure underneath. Cladding can also provide additional insulation.
Whilst timber cladding is popular thanks to its warm appearance, it can be susceptible to rot. Wood effect cladding made from PVC is extremely popular as an alternative. Not only does it offer protection, it creates a seamless but rustic finish, unlike other types of cladding which can look sterile and industrial. Wood effect cladding can add character to modern buildings whilst still being practical. It is also lightweight, long-lasting, and budget-friendly.
If a modern industrial look is what you’re after, or you need something incredibly durable where aesthetics don’t matter, opt for steel or metal cladding. This is often used for large-scale or commercial buildings thanks to its incredible performance and longevity. It is also quick and easy to install due to being supplied in large sheets. Some types of metal cladding even come with a coating which protects against UV and corrosion. If fire resistance is a priority, opt for fibre cement cladding.
