Roof Batten & Counter Batten
A roof batten, or roof timber batten, is a horizontal strip of wood fixed to the roof structure, providing support for roof tiles, shingles, or slates. It is used to ensure proper alignment, enhance ventilation by creating space for air circulation, and help distribute the load of the roofing material evenly, improving the roof's stability and durability. Timber batten has a variety of applications, such as in walls, floors, cold roofs, warm roofs, and many more.
A counter batten, or counter timber batten, is a vertical strip of wood installed over the building membrane and beneath the horizontal timber battens. It improves ventilation by creating vertical channels for air flow, enhances drainage by directing water to the eaves, and provides a stable base for attaching the horizontal battens, contributing to a robust and weather-resistant roofing system.
