Lintels

Lintels are fundamental in providing structural support to your building. Normally placed above windows, door frames, and other openings, they support the weight of bricks, mortar, and any other building components that sit above.

Lintels come in all different types, but the most common are steel lintels. Steel is an extremely durable material that does not crack, warp, stretch, or break, even when under extreme pressure, which is why it is used to make lintels found in most UK properties. Another type is thermally broken lintels. Whilst steel is the best when it comes to capacity-bearing strength, it is a high conductor of heat, and can cause heat loss, conducting it away from the inside of the building. Thermally broken lintels contain a thermal break, usually made from either mineral wool or polyurethane, which prevents heat loss and thermal bridging whilst still being able to support heavy loads.

CATNIC lintels are a leading brand when it comes to types mentioned above, as well as cavity wall, single leaf, and timber frame lintels. With almost 60 years of experience, they are the most popular lintel brand known for their high quality and excellent performance.
