If the roll is installed in a loft or cold roof, it can be placed between and over the joists. You can use this product to insulate between the joists, that is not a problem. I would recommend looking into using insulation netting to help support the loft roll when it is being used on a horizontal plane, as there is no rigidity to the loft roll to keep it in place.
