Question:
I have sound coming through an internal concrete wall from the plant room. Can this product be used in this location. What is the best system to secure it to the block wall?
Answer:
Yes, the ROCKWOOL RWA45 Acoustic Insulation Slab can be used for soundproofing an internal concrete wall. This product is specifically designed for thermal, acoustic, and fire insulation and is suitable for walls, floors, and ceilings. To secure the insulation to a block wall, you can use adhesive or mechanical fixings depending on the situation. Adhesive is usually used for smaller areas or for temporary installations, while mechanical fixings are more suitable for larger areas or permanent installations. For more detailed information on how to install the product, you can refer to ROCKWOOL's installation guide available here. Remember to ensure that the installation is carried out correctly, as improper installation can affect the performance of the insulation.
Question:
Can ROCKWOOL RWA45 Acoustic Insulation Slab be used to fill external brick and block cavity walls. The job is a single story project. Is it also suitable to replace cavity closers. I intend to also use this product for a first floor timber framed loft room, being floor, walls and roof timber insulation is this acceptable as a foil quilt will also be installed before plaster board is fixed. Thank you regards Art Waller
Answer:
The ROCKWOOL RWA45 Acoustic Insulation Slab is a versatile product that can be used for a variety of applications. It's suitable for use in floors, ceilings, and walls, which would include your first floor timber-framed loft room. The product's primary function is to provide acoustic insulation, but it also has excellent thermal properties with a thermal conductivity of 0.035 W/mK. However, it's important to note that while this insulation can be used in walls, it may not be the best fit for filling external brick and block cavity walls, as it is not specifically designed for this purpose. It might not provide the best performance compared to products specifically designed for cavity wall applications. Regarding your question about replacing cavity closers, I would recommend checking with a building professional or our technical team to ensure it's suitable for this specific application, as this product is primarily designed for acoustic and thermal insulation.
Question:
is this fire rated?
Answer:
Yes, the ROCKWOOL RWA45 Acoustic Insulation Slab is fire rated. It has an A1 classification to BS EN 13501-1, which is the highest classification and means it's non-combustible. You can find more information about its fire performance in the Safety Data Sheet, which you can access by clicking here.

Question:
I have 4â€/ 10cm thick stud wall. What thickness of Rockwell do I need? Or is there another product?
Answer:
By giving me those dimensions, that means that you have up to 100mm to play with when deciding what thickness is insulation to use.
Unfortunately we are not able to specifiy what products would be suitable, but the two most common products used would be the slab form of insulation (Rockwool and Celotex as an example)
I would recommend getting in touch with your local Building Authority/Control, as they have the facilities and the Expertise to be able to help answer this in detail for you.
