Question:
Hello, I have enough depsth to accomoadte 160mm or slightly more. Can i use this instaed of kingspan PIR for my floor in a new extesnion in england. The original spec was 100 pir, but I would prefer the better compressibe strengh of XPS. Thanks Mark
Answer:
Hello Mark, Yes, the Kingspan Greenguard GG300 XPS Insulation Board can indeed be used for floor applications in a new extension. It has a thickness of 80mm, so two layers of this product can accommodate a depth of 160mm. Please be aware that while XPS does provide better compressive strength compared to PIR, it has a slightly lower thermal conductivity value (0.033 W/mK). This means that while it can withstand more pressure, it might not insulate as efficiently as PIR insulation. If the original specification was for 100mm PIR, using 160mm of XPS should provide a comparable level of insulation due to the increased thickness, but we would recommend consulting with your project engineer or architect to ensure this product will meet your specific requirements. I hope this information helps! Let us know if you have any other questions.
