Quick drying and ideal for various common building surfaces, this Black Jack 901 Black Bitumen Paint from Everbuild is a full bodied, solvent-based bituminous paint. Once it dries, it creates a completely scentless and taint-free black film that provides a coverage of 4 - 6m² per litre depending on the porosity of substrates and 11m² per litre on non-porous surfaces.

This paint is a highly effective solution for providing corrosion resistance, as well as waterproof and weatherproof protection. Black Bitumen Paint is primarily used for protecting metal surfaces, such as corrugated iron sheets, fire escapes, stairways, ladders, storage tanks, gutters, downpipes, fences, railings, gates, and other similar structures. It is also implemented as a defensive layer for concrete structures, stone, brick, concrete screeds, and sand/cement surfaces, and for overcoating felt and wood materials.

Everbuild Black Bitumen Paint is ready for use and should not be thinned. Using a brush or spray, apply a minimum of two coats. The first should dry for two to four hours depending on weather conditions before the second is applied. Following application, tools can be cleaned by using white spirit. Any spills should be wiped away from surfaces before the bitumen paint sets.

Surface Preparation

• As with any surface coating, surface preparation is paramount in determining the degree of adhesion achieved and the lifespan of the coating. Surfaces need to be sound, stable, and cleaned and dried prior to application. When dealing with metal surfaces, use a wire brush to remove any rust. For long-term protection, a rust-inhibitive product like red lead or zinc phosphate should be applied as an initial treatment. Any loose or blistered paint must be removed, as well as tar-based paint systems. New galvanised surfaces require roughening with a wire brush or a proprietary etch primer. For porous surfaces, prime using a bitumen primer from Everbuild.

Please note:

• Protecting coating on concrete, etc.: Since concrete and some stone surfaces may be porous, an initial primer coat of Everbuild bitumen primer should be applied.
• Health and safety: Consult MSDS for full list of hazards.
• Storage: This paint contains a flammable solvent. All normal precautions against fire must be taken during both storage and use. Store in original container in cool dry conditions and keep clear of sources of ignition.
• Limitations: Do not use in areas where subsequent solvent contact is likely or for potable drinking water tanks. Avoid any inhalation of vapours in cramped space and allow sufficient drying time between coats. Bitumen Paint may bleed through any paints subsequently applied over it, so use a primer recommended by the paint manufacturer before overpainting.
