Description

Designed for use in British Gypsum partition and wall systems where greater levels of sound insulation are needed, this Gyproc SoundBloc plasterboard has a higher-density aerated core that is covered in and firmly secured to strong paper liners. Suitable for drylining internal surfaces, it is certified to BES 6001 achieving a rating of 'Very Good'.

When fixing this plasterboard, fit the boards with the decorative side out to receive a skim plaster finish or joint treatment. Gently butt the boards together but never force them into place. Install the fixings no closer than 10mm from bound edges and 13mm from cut edges. Eliminate paper burrs with fine sandpaper and position cut edges to the inside angles whenever achievable. By a minimum of 600mm between layers, stagger vertical and horizontal board joints. Locate the board to the middle line of framing where this supports board ends or edges.

Multiple joint specifications are available to suit the method of application, site preference and board type. After the joint treatment has dried, priming and the final decoration should follow as quickly as possible.

This Gyproc SoundBloc plasterboard can be cut by scoring with a sharp knife and snapping the board over a straight edge or with the use of a plasterboard saw. With a sharp knife or utility saw, holes for socket or switch boxes should be cut out before fixing the boards.

Questions & Answers

Question:

Is this product suitable to use to form ceilings? I would like to replace my exisitng plasterboard suspended ceiling with this, and fill the shallow void above (between the soundbloc plasterboard and the concrete floor-slab of the flat above) with Rockwool).

Answer:

The product is suitable to be used in ceiling applications like traditional plasterboard.

Question:

Would this product effectively sound proof a room if used on its own or would it just reduce sound.

Answer:

For an Acoustic based Plasterboard, this would only help reduce the amount of noise heard. For better results, you would use this in conjunction with other sound reduction products. If you are looking to sound-proof an area, you would need to enlist the help of a specialist.
