Find out moreSuperFOIL SFBB is a highly advanced reflective breather membrane that is watertight, making it a high value option in the UK. Compared to traditional non-reflective versions, situ energy assessment suggests that foil breathers provide additional advantages. By creating a barrier to the movement of air, while still letting moisture escape, the risk of condensation is reduced.
Not only does it offer energy efficiency improvements as a result of air leakage control, but SuperFOIL SFBB is also CE certified for its performance as a water barrier. This advanced membrane is effortless to handle and install and can be cut and sealed with ease, as well as expected to last more than 50 years.
To achieve a water-tight insulated structure that still allows moisture to escape, it is important to install SFBB on the 'cold' side of the insulated structure with special attention to sealing all seams and holes effectively.
When fixing and jointing, a minimum of 100mm laps is recommended and SF jointing tape should be used to seal them. When sealing around penetrations, special care is needed. If the barrier is breached by construction elements, use SuperFOIL Tape to seal the aperture.
Please note:
Question:
Could this membrane be used above old lath and plaster ceilings and below new mineral wool insulation in a loft?
Answer:
The Reflective Breather Membrane Felt Underlay SuperFOIL SFBB is a versatile product that can indeed be used in loft applications. It's designed for use with inverted roofs, pitched roofs, and walls. However, it's important to evaluate the specific condition and needs of your loft before installation. If you're planning to install it above old lath and plaster ceilings and below new mineral wool insulation, it should work well due to its vapour permeable properties. This allows any moisture that gets into the insulation to escape, preventing any potential damp issues. You may find more detailed information about the product's features and installation in the product brochure, which you can access here. If you have any specific concerns or questions about your loft's conditions, it may be best to consult with a professional installer or our technical team for further advice.

The branded reflective side, should face towards the exterior. The non-branded side faces the structure you are fixing it to.
