Choosing the right insulation for timber frame construction is important to achieve the best thermal performance and moisture control of the building. The type of insulation required depends on the area of the building and the space available.

Why is insulation for timber frame construction important?

Timber frame construction is once again increasing in popularity, with its many benefits including flexible design, sustainability and speed of construction. From breather membranes to plasterboard, Insulation Superstore has the right material for your timber frame building.

Kingspan Kooltherm K118 is a premium performance insulated plasterboard. It provides insulation, dry-lining and vapour control all in one board. It also achieves a Class 0 fire rating, meaning it protects from the spread of flames and limits the amount of heat released. Once installed, it provides vapour resistance as a result of the integral vapour control layer.

K118 is ideal for new builds, retrofits and refurbishments. It can be used on solid external walls, internal timber frame walls and under rafters.

Breather membranes

DuPont Tyvek Housewrap is wind tight, water resistant and easy to install. This makes it a great choice for timber frame wall systems. It can be left uncovered for up to four months whilst retaining full performance. This is a result of high density polyethylene fibres providing long-term protection against the elements.

Suitable for use in new build, refurbishment or extension projects.

You may also want to consider DuPont Firecurb Housewrap for further protection of walls and roofs. The flame retardant properties slow and prevent the spread of flames, in addition to self-extinguishing when ignited. This increases the fire rating of wall elements and improves evacuation time for occupants.

Acoustic decks

JCW Acoustic Deck 32 overlay boards offer good impact and airborne sound reduction for timber floors. It is also perfect for refurbishments where floor height is an issue, at just 32mm thickness. A great choice either as an economical overlay or direct to joist board.

This acoustic deck is ready for final floor installation, in addition to being easy to fit with a tongue and groove edging. Suitable for floated wood, laminate and carpets/carpet tiles.
