How do I calculate the correct size of BodenWärme heating kit?

First work out the area of the whole floor space by multiplying the length of the floor by the width. You should then subtract any fixed furniture from the area with a clearance of less than 50mm above the floor. This will eradicate the risk of causing hot spots in your room. When you have a total area minus the deductions, you should deduct a further 10% from your total as this will allow for the spacing between cables and around the perimeter of the room.

Please note:

  • For optimal performance, it is essential to pair your BodenWärme under laminate heating mats with either the specified BodenWärme 5mm XPS underlay insulation or an equivalent soft XPS underlay expressly recommended for electric under laminate heating.
  • The maximum total size of 140w/m² BodenWärme heating that a single thermostat can control is 24m². For an area greater than 24m², divide into separate zones with multiple thermostats.
  • A certified electrician must undertake all mains electrical connections.
  • The heating must be protected by a 30 Amp Residual Current Device (30mA RCD).
  • You should also ensure that the total current of your heating system does not surpass the current capacity of the circuit it is connected to.
