Tyvek Reflex, a breather membrane with a metallised surface, enhances thermal efficiency by reflecting radiant heat during summer and minimising convective heat loss in winter. It provides secondary protection against external moisture for various wall systems and is especially effective in lightweight construction like timber or metal frame systems.
This low emissivity breather membrane is a preferred choice for masonry and internal insulation upgrades. It is both durable and water-resistant with a high-density polyethylene composition.
A material's emissivity refers to its surface's ability to emit energy through radiation. A material with a low emissivity value is more reflective, making it an effective thermal insulation layer when used with an air gap. Tyvek Reflex, for example, has an emissivity value of 0.09, which means it reflects 91% of radiant heat, resulting in improved thermal comfort and airtightness. This leads to a decrease in the overall thermal transmittance or U-value of the construction.
