SoundBarrier Mat is designed to absorb noise, so that sound cannot travel through walls and ceilings. It will reduce airbourne noise in floors, ceilings and walls. When used with a layer of plasterboard, vibrations struggle to pass through different materials with varying density and this uses up a lot of the energy. By using up a lot of energy, sound can’t pass through the materials with as much vibration as it would otherwise and so the sound is blocked entirely or dampened.
After laying SoundBarrier Mat it’s recommended that an acoustic sealant is installed around the perimeter to maximise performance by preventing sound from leaking around the edges of SoundBarrier Mat. Lay acoustically insulated plasterboard over the top for optimal performance.
Changing thickness and density will block significantly more noise so there is no benefit from adding more of the same. This is why SoundBarrier Mat and plasterboard will outperform layers of plasterboard only.
Tack nails and washers are recommended to eliminate tearing, or an industrial staple gun will also successfully fix SoundBarrier Mat. SoundBarrier Mat has been tested to BS EN ISO 717:1, BS EN ISO 140-3: 1995, and BS EN ISO 2750 Part 3: 1995.
Please note, using this on the walls behind an acoustic plasterboard will give you no acoustic benefit.
