Description

In order to maintain the door's longevity and visual appeal, it is recommended to annually clean all coatings to eliminate surface pollution and assess the need for any touch-ups or refinishing. Additionally, it is advisable to fully treat the door every few years or as needed, depending on the level of exposure. Doors in areas prone to harsh conditions may require more regular maintenance coats.

Kit Contents

1 x 1 litre pot of oak top coat
1 x 500ml pot of oak base coat
1 x 250ml pot of end grain sealer

Coating Schedule

Apply a single coat of XL Joinery base coat to the faces and edges, not forgetting the top and bottom edges of the door. Allow at least four hours for the coat to dry.
Apply two coats of XL Joinery end grain sealer to the top and bottom edges, waiting two hours before applying the second coat of end grain sealer and subsequent recoating.
Two coats of XL Joinery top coat should be applied to every face and edge, including the top and bottom edges, with a minimum of four hours drying time between coats.
Make sure that all lock, letterbox and hinge cut-outs have been finished to the same degree and film thickness as the timber surface.

General Instructions

Lightly sand with P240 grit abrasive paper (recommended) along the grain of the substrate and round sharp edges to 2-3mm radius. Remove rust and ensure surfaces are clean and dry. Stir and apply coats with a quality synthetic fibre brush, working along the grain and reloading frequently for an adequate build. Employ the full coating schedule (base coat, top coat, end sealer) before installation or exposure to elements. Denib between coats with P240 grit paper, avoiding surface damage to the coating system. Dust should not be present when the next coat is applied.

Please note:

Consult the Material Safety Data Sheet and stir product well, checking the colour before application.
Apply according to the Technical Data Sheet with reference to the coating instructions and the information on each tin.
Aways use appropriate safety equipment.
Coating should not be applied if the treatment is 10°C or below, or in damp or rainy conditions. Drying times will vary according to environmental conditions.
