Knauf Dritherm

Earthwool DriTherm Cavity Slabs are one of the latest cavity wall products from Knauf. Knauf manufacture a wide range of insulating products for use in a number of different applications, and Earthwool Dritherm cavity slabs are the latest innovative products available.

Earthwool DriTherm cavity slabs have been manufactured from glass mineral wool. Recyclable materials are combined with limestone, sand and soda ash, which are then all spun at high temperatures to form a number of very fine strands. These strandsa are then packed together to form semi-rigid or rigid cavity slabs.

The cavity slabs in the Earthwool DriTherm category have been designed specifically for use within external masonry cavity walls of residential and non-residential buildings, to minimise heat loss and keep the building warm without requiring high costs to heat the building. The cavity slabs are manufactured to be 455mm wide, meaning that they fit perfectly within standard vertical wall tie spaces. This ensures that there is a closed joint with adjacent slabs, minimising the potential for heat loss.

Earthwool DriTherm cavity slabs effectively "knit" to adjacent cavity slabs, which minimises the potential for gaps to occur between the cavity slabs, further reducing heat loss. 

Earthwool DriTherm products also have an additive which causes the cavity slabs to become water repellent. When water is absorbed by insulating materials, it can siginficantly reduce the insulating capabilities, so preventing water from being absorbed will ensure the insulation retains its highly insulating properties.

Earthwool Dritherm cavity slabs are rated Euroclass A1 non-combustible, and they are approved by the British Board of Agrement for use in buildings up to 12m high in any exposure zone and for use in multi-storey applications up to 25m in height.

Earthwool DriTherm thermal conductivity

The Earthwool DriTherm 32 U value is not something that can be calculated without taking into account the thickness and material of the cavity wall in which it will be installed. Instead, it is possible to calculate and use the Thermal Conductivity as a measure of how effective the insulating product is. The lower the thermal conductivity, the better insulating the product is, as the slower the rate is at which heat will pass through the material.

The thermal conductivity of Earthwool Dritherm 32 is 0.0032 W/mK, whilst the thermal conductivity of Earthwool Dritherm 34 is 0.0034 W/mK, and the thermal conductivity of Earthwool Dritherm 37 is 0.0037 W/mK.
